In China, products classically display a very different product lifecycle than in other countries.
    This is primarily due to :


         > Many of the older MNC brands have never had patent protection in China and hence have competed with generics over a
            period of time.

         > The traditionally poor quality of local generics ¨C big base in China remains non GMP based.

         > The hospital commercial model - not aligned to lowering the cost of drug treatment ie 50% of all hospital profit comes from the
            sale of pharmaceuticals.

         > The domestic companies promotional model ¨C cash based with limited or no scientific promotion.

         > Adopted a national selling and distribution model whilst domestic companies are regionally based ¨C difficult to expand
            nationally.
 
As a result, none of the top 10 selling Rx products are patent protected.
