Mark Lotter
President and CEO

Prior to founding NovaMed, Mark Lotter was Vice President of Commercial Operations for AstraZeneca China. Under his leadership, the company grew from 600 to 2,000 people, and from $80 million to $280 million in sales over three years. He was largely responsible for turning AstraZeneca to the largest prescription based multinational in China. Prior to China, Mark was CEO of Aspen Pharmacare, in South Africa and then in Europe. Aspen is one of the top 20 generic manufacturers worldwide and Africa's largest pharmaceutical manufacturer. Under Mr. Lotter's leadership, Aspen employed over 3,500 people and generated over US$500 million in sales. Mr. Lotter holds a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Natal, and MBA from the University of South Africa.

Bo Y Shao

Bo Shao is a Co-Founder and Chairman of NovaMed and a Co-Founder of BabyTree. In addition, Mr. Shao is a venture partner at Matrix Partners, a leading venture capital firm in the U.S. Prior to his current positions, Mr. Shao was the founder and CEO of EachNet, which became the dominant consumer e-commerce company in China and was acquired by eBay in 2003 in a landmark transaction. Prior to EachNet, Mr. Shao worked at the Boston Consulting Group and Goldman Sachs. Mr. Shao holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA, summa cum laude, in physics and electrical engineering from Harvard College. Mr. Shao was born in China and was a winner of national mathematics competitions over a dozen times during high school. Mr. Shao is a recognized young business leader in China and the recipient of awards in China and abroad, including the Forum of Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum and Entrepreneur of the Year by Asian Venture Capital Journal. He is a trustee of Give2Asia and Hua Yuan Science and Technology Association.

Norman Chen

Prior to join Fidelity Asia Ventures (FAV) in 2005, Norman Chen has more than 15 years experience in the Asian healthcare industry including positions from senior manager, founder to venture capitalist. He started his career in pharmaceutical industry at Baxter International. He managed the marketing of medical device business in 13 countries across Asia from 1991 to 1996. In 1996, Norman Chen founded ARC with $ 100 million from several international venture capitals which including FAV, Investor AB, Walden International and a strategic partner of Satellite Dialysis Centers affiliated to Stanford University. As the VP, CEO and the Vice Chairman of the board, Norman Chen has a great contribution in the development of ARC in the past 9 years. ARC has 65 Satellite Dialysis Centers in Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Philippine, providing regular medical service for more than 4 ,500 patients. From 2002 to 2003, Norman Chen was an entrepreneur in residence for Walden International. Norman Chen holds a BS in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and MBA from Stanford University.

Prof William R. Brody

William R. Brody is the president of The Johns Hopkins University. Previously, he had been provost of the Academic Health Center at the University of Minnesota and, from 1987 to 1994, director of the Department of Radiology at Johns Hopkins and radiologist-in-chief of The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Brody received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his M.D. and Ph.D., also in electrical engineering, from Stanford University. Following post-graduate training in cardiovascular surgery and radiology at Stanford, the National Institutes of Health and the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Brody was professor of radiology and electrical engineering at Stanford University (1977-1986). He has been a co-founder of three medical device companies, and has made contributions in medical acoustics, computed tomography, digital radiography and magnetic resonance imaging. Dr. Brody is a member of the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Engineering, and a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the American College of Cardiology, the American Institute of Biomedical Engineering, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Zina Affas

Zina Affas joined Atlas Venture in 2002 and is a Principal working in the firm's Life Sciences sector. Zina joined Atlas Venture from Euromedica where she was an Executive Search Consultant specializing in Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology assignments in Europe. Previously, she was a Scientific Analyst at the international law firm Shook, Hardy & Bacon where she worked in medical litigation and, in particular, pharmaceutical and tobacco product liability in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. She works closely with portfolio companies Achillion (NASDAQ: ACHN) , Cellzome, Neurotech, NovaMed and Sirion. She sits on the Board of Cellzome, NovaMed and Sirion.Zina holds a Pharmacy degree with Honors from the University of Nottingham and is a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. She obtained a Medicinal Chemistry Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham where her research focused on establishing strategies toward the synthesis of bacterial signaling molecules and led to filing of the patent "Compounds and their use as antibacterial agents." The research is published in the Journal of Molecular Microbiology.
